Newsletter: Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans
Hot Club of Spokane bandleader Garrin Hertel will be introducing the one hour documentary Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans tomorrow, Saturday, February 14th, at NOON at the AMC Theatres in downtown Spokane.
Come learn about the first African American neighborhood in the Americas, where free African Americans became poets, composers, and civil rights leaders well ahead of the birth of jazz and the larger civil rights movement in America.
Faubourg Treme celebrates the community of the Sixth Ward on the outskirts of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana, a neighborhood that is intensely important to the identity of contemporary America, yet remains relatively unknown to most people.
Come watch this fantastic documentary, and experience moments of disbelief, astonishment, heart break, and victory, as the birth and rebirth of Faubourg Treme encourages you to live with the same creativity and resolve of our neighbors in the Sixth Ward of New Orleans who continue their struggle, not just to be recognized, but also to enjoy the peace and comfort of a truly diverse and satisfying American dream.
